During the offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays reportedly offered Kyle Tucker a 10-year major contract, but Tucker ultimately signed a 4-year, $240 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tucker explained his reasons for not joining the Blue Jays in an interview with The Athletic.
The Blue Jays lost to the Dodgers in the previous Shohei Ohtani pursuit, and Tucker was the most prominent hitter in last year's offseason. The Blue Jays invited Tucker to tour the team facilities and play golf together, but ultimately lost to the Dodgers at the last moment.
"I never ruled out the Blue Jays until everything was settled," Tucker emphasized in the interview. "Regardless of which team I finally signed with, I was actually very excited. They have great fans, a great stadium, and a very strong team."
Tucker then explained his choice of the Dodgers, "I just want to make the best use of the remaining years of my career. I can't play forever, so I hope to develop in a place that feels most suitable for me and my family, doing everything to the best, and that place is California."
