The Twin Cities' late-winter reinforcements continue. Minnesota Twins agreed to a one-year major league contract with veteran infielder Ty France on Tuesday, sources told MLB.com. Sources say the contract is worth $1 million, but it is not a guaranteed contract, which has not yet been confirmed by the club.
With spring training approaching, the first base position is the biggest question for the Twin Cities. After Carlos Santana, who performed well in 2024, left as a free agent, the void has not been filled. Frans is likely to be a strong candidate for the Twins' main first baseman.
The 30-year-old spent most of last season with the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline. He batted 0.234/0.305/0.365 last season and had 13 home runs, 51 RBIs and 46 RBIs. In 2021 and 2022, he performed well with the Mariners, and was named an All-Star in 2022.
Over the course of his career, France batted 0.263/0.337/0.407 from 2,819 sheets and hit 74 home runs. In the major leagues, he played primarily as a first baseman and also had brief playing spells on second and third base, making him one of the most capable players on the Twins team for multiple infield positions.
France will replace Brent Headrick in the 40-man roster. Earlier in the day, Haderick was removed from the list of pending players by the New York Yankees.
