Team Japan is preparing for the World Baseball Classic, with MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani and Seiya Suzuki recently arriving in Nagoya to join the squad. At a subsequent press conference, Suzuki jokingly suggested Ohtani should take everyone out for a meal, but was met with a "cold" rejection from Ohtani, unexpectedly becoming the focus.
According to Japanese media, after arriving that day, Ohtani did not take batting practice on the field, only completing catch and indoor training. At the press conference, Suzuki brought it up with a smile: "Last time during the Classic, it was Yu Darvish who treated everyone. This time, it should be Shohei Ohtani's turn, right?" He added jokingly, "Although time is limited, I'm sure he'll be generous and treat us."
However, Ohtani's reaction was more "serious" than expected. He responded with a straight face, "Winning is the most important thing. We're not here to enjoy fine dining; I'm here to play baseball." Ohtani went on to emphasize, "The top priority is to focus on the goal of winning the championship and give it our all."
Faced with Ohtani's stern answer, Suzuki immediately showed a flustered expression and hurriedly apologized, "I'm sorry, I was wrong." The atmosphere turned awkward for a moment, but it also sparked a wave of laughter.
Ohtani's response was interpreted by Japanese media as demonstrating a strong desire to win, with his focus entirely on the competition itself. In the eyes of this two-way superstar, dinner can wait, but winning cannot.
