Resurrection declaration! Angels star Trout calls to return to center field, saying: less physical burden

Los Angeles Angels' star player "Trout" Mike Trout recently made it clear to General Manager Perry Minasian and new head coach Kurt Suzuki that he hopes to return to center field defense in the upcoming season.

This three-time American League MVP and 11-time All-Star legendary outfielder shifted to right field last season but only played 22 games there due to a left knee bone bruise, spending much of the rest of the time as designated hitter. Although he appeared in 130 games overall, his batting average was just 0.232 with 26 home runs, 64 RBIs, and a 0.798 OPS, showing a clear decline from his peak performance.

Trout stated, "I talked with Zook, and I really want to play center field. Of course, I’ll play wherever the team needs me, but I have clearly expressed my desire to return to center field. I am confident playing there."

The 34-year-old Trout believes that playing center field actually puts less strain on his body. "Honestly, playing center feels easier than right field. I actually run more in right field—maybe it's just habit—but I feel best in center field."

Head coach Kurt Suzuki revealed that during spring training, Trout, Jo Adell, and Josh Lowe will rotate trying out center field, while Trout will also play both corner outfield spots to evaluate the best fit. Suzuki also praised Trout’s team-first attitude: "He told me he can play left, right, or center field whenever needed."

If Trout returns to center field, Adell can move back to his more familiar right field spot, Lowe will cover left field, and designated hitter Jorge Soler will occasionally rotate in the outfield, making the overall outfield alignment more stable.

Trout emphasized that his left knee bone bruise has fully healed with no physical restrictions during spring training. Last season, after adjusting his batting approach, he regained his rhythm late in the season, hitting .333 with 5 home runs in the final 7 games, sending a positive signal for the new season.

Although he cannot participate in the World Baseball Classic due to insurance reasons, Trout will focus on the Angels’ spring training. He noted that many teammates also share a strong desire to prove themselves, creating an atmosphere full of ambition.

When asked if he is also seeking a comeback, Trout smiled and replied, "Always. I know my abilities, and I’m in great shape now."
