The Milwaukee Brewers have signed infielder Luis Rengifo to a one-year contract, strengthening their roster depth.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that infielder Luis Rengifo has reached a one-year Major League contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Sources reveal Rengifo will receive a guaranteed salary of $3.5 million, plus $1.5 million in incentives. The deal also includes a $10 million split option for 2027, though the team has not yet officially confirmed the signing.

From 2022 to 2024, Rengifo developed into a highly valuable utility player, maintaining above-average offensive production while defending multiple positions. However, he struggled in the 2025 season, appearing in a career-high 147 games (previous high was 127), with his OPS dropping from 0.754 over the prior three years to 0.622 last season.

The decline was mainly due to an increase in strikeout rate to 19.2%, the highest since 2021, along with a significant drop in power hitting. Between 2022 and 2024, his slugging percentage stayed above .400, but last year it fell to .335, ranking fourth lowest among qualified hitters.

Notably, Rengifo’s quality of contact has not significantly declined. His sweet spot contact rate, solid contact percentage, and average exit velocity remained roughly consistent with the previous three years. This suggests that at nearly 29 years old next season, he still has a chance to regain his former form.

Rengifo’s fundamental skills largely remain intact; despite the rise in strikeouts, his swing-and-miss rate is similar to before. If he can rebound, he has the potential to be a valuable utility player contributing between 1.5 and 2.0 WAR. During his time with the Angels, Rengifo was among the team’s most valuable players and frequently featured in trade rumors due to his versatile utility.
