The Boston Red Sox are in discussions with the St. Louis Cardinals about trading Arenado

According to a report by MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi on Tuesday, the Red Sox and Cardinals "recently communicated" about a trade for Nolan Arenado.

The Red Sox have been mentioned several times throughout the offseason as a potential home for Arenado, but the extent of the Red Sox's interest in the eight-time All-Star third baseman has not been clear.

Last month, a source revealed to MLB.com's John Denton that Arenal had informed the Cardinals that he was willing to agree to be traded to the Red Sox, while other reports also pointed to the Red Sox as one of Arenado's top destinations.

The Red Sox are also linked to star free agent third baseman Alex Bregman. Morossi noted that if the Red Sox-Cardinals trade talks for Arenal go ahead, it could affect Bregman's free agent market. Bregman is one of the top free agents who has yet to be signed.
