Shohei Ohtani creates a dog-themed picture book titled "Decoy's Special Day," set to be officially released in February next year.

Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese two-way player for the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers, participated as a co-author in creating the picture book "Decoy's Special Day" (Japanese title: "デコピンのとくべつないちにち"), illustrating the everyday life of his dog Decoy. The book is scheduled for official release in February 2026. Ohtani stated, "I hope this picture book will bring happiness to children."

Publisher Poplar announced today: "This picture book will be simultaneously launched at major physical bookstores and online shops across Japan in February 2026. The story features Decoy, the beloved dog of MLB Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, portraying its adorable daily life."

This is the first original story personally written by Shohei Ohtani and Michael Blank as co-authors. Set against the backdrop of the opening ceremony of the baseball season, it warmly depicts Decoy’s heartfelt effort to deliver the owner's most treasured "lucky ball," accidentally left at home, to the stadium before the game starts.

The book targets children aged 3 to 7 and their families. Shohei Ohtani and Decoy plan to donate all proceeds from this picture book to charity. Poplar also supports this mission and announced that part of the sales revenue will be contributed to animal protection organizations.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the creation, Shohei Ohtani said, "Decoy has been by my side through many precious moments. I’m very happy to share why Decoy is so special through this story. I hope this picture book brings joy to children and that, by supporting animal welfare groups, more dogs can find loving homes."
