The Chicago Cubs have shown a "renewed interest" in Alex Bregman.

It has been reported that the Chicago Cubs proposed a four-year deal to third baseman Alex Bregman during the previous offseason, yet he ended up signing with the Boston Red Sox. The Athletic reveals that the Cubs are currently expressing a "renewed interest" in this three-time All-Star player.

With Kyle Tucker, whom the Cubs acquired via trade before last season, entering free agency, the team might turn its attention to Bregman due to the potential loss of Tucker’s offensive production. Although Bregman missed some games in the 2025 season because of injury, he still posted an impressive .822 OPS and 18 home runs for the Red Sox, maintaining a strong career track record.

Considering that current third baseman Matt Shaw is still adjusting at the major league level, and the team's second-ranked prospect (53rd overall), Moisés Ballesteros, only made his MLB debut last season, the Cubs may need to look externally to replace lost offensive power if Tucker signs elsewhere.
