Shohei Ohtani dominates again! The most mentioned player in Spotify’s annual review

Major League Baseball (MLB) officially revealed on social media platform X today (the 4th) the 2025 annual review list from the popular music streaming service Spotify. The list shows Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way star Shohei Ohtani topping the “most mentioned player of the year” category, claiming this title for the second consecutive year and achieving a unique form of “defense.” The MLB’s official post even called him the “most significant figure.”

In Spotify’s 2025 annual review of player mentions, the players ranked from second to fifth are: New York Yankees’ power hitter “The Judge” Aaron Judge, Seattle Mariners’ heavy-hitting catcher Cal Raleigh, World Series MVP and Japan’s top pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Reacting to this list, fans from both the U.S. and Japan commented: “Who else but Ohtani?”, “This man has dominated every conversation this year,” “It’s because he had an unbelievable season,” “After all, MLB’s face is Ohtani and Judge,” “Ohtani is obvious, but it’s great to see Yoshinobu ranked fourth.”

Summarizing Shohei Ohtani’s performance this season, “Batter Ohtani” posted a batting average of .282, 55 home runs, 102 RBIs, and a slugging percentage of 1.014; while “Pitcher Ohtani” appeared in 14 games, recording a 1-1 win-loss record with a 2.87 ERA. He has won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for three consecutive years and was once again a unanimous selection this year, earning this honor for the fourth time in his career.

Additionally, the MLB also announced the top five teams most frequently mentioned on Spotify in 2025, in order: Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, and Boston Red Sox.
