Uncertainty arises for Japan's team in the World Baseball Classic as Japanese media reveal the Dodgers might deny Yusei Yamamoto's participation.

Despite Yusei Yamamoto’s outstanding performance and MVP recognition in the World Series, Japanese media report that the Dodgers might refuse to allow him to play in the upcoming WBC World Baseball Classic scheduled for next March.

In his sophomore season with the Dodgers, Yamamoto posted remarkable stats: 30 games played, 12 wins, and a 2.49 ERA. Over 173.2 innings pitched, he struck out 201 batters, establishing himself as the team’s most reliable starting pitcher. During the World Series, he appeared three times (starting twice), pitching 17.2 innings with only 2 runs allowed and 15 strikeouts, maintaining a low 1.02 ERA, ultimately earning MVP honors and helping the team defend their title successfully.

A former professional player with experience in both Japanese and American leagues analyzed, "Yamamoto’s pitching in the World Series was still at an extraordinary level. Although he did not pitch in Game 3, the strain on his body while preparing in the bullpen was significant. When he touched his right arm upon returning to the dugout in Game 7, it was clearly to check muscle tightness. Considering less than four months remain before the tournament, the risk of injury is concerning, making his participation in the Classic next March unlikely."

A Japan-based reporter revealed that the team is worried that starting competition early in the cold March weather could increase the risk of injury for the pitcher. Since Yamamoto has been established as the Dodgers’ ace in the rotation, it is essential to ensure he begins the new season in full health, so the management is inclined to deny his participation in next year’s Classic.
