Munetaka Murakami joining the Dodgers to form the ultimate warrior squad? A seasoned American journalist analyzes the pros and cons.

Munetaka Murakami, the powerful hitter from NPB's Tokyo Yakult Swallows, officially declared his challenge to Major League Baseball today through the posting system, becoming one of the most sought-after Japanese free agents. Although many speculate that the Los Angeles Dodgers might enter the bidding, ESPN veteran reporter Jeff Passan pointed out in his analysis that the Dodgers may not be Murakami’s ideal destination.

On the American talk show "The Rich Eisen Show," Passan said: "Maybe Murakami personally prefers the Dodgers, but the key question is, what position would he play?" He explained that the Dodgers recently exercised the team option to retain third baseman Max Muncy, first base is manned by star Freddie Freeman, and the designated hitter role is firmly held by Shohei Ohtani.

"Murakami’s primary defensive position is third base, and it’s unlikely he will convert to an outfielder, so it’s hard to find a suitable spot for him in the Dodgers’ lineup," Passan bluntly stated. "If he insists on choosing the Dodgers, he might have to accept a contract below market value."

Meanwhile, the latest odds released on FOX Sports’ official social media show that the Dodgers are not the favorite destination for Murakami. The San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox share the top spot at +550 odds, followed by the New York Mets at +600. The Dodgers are tied for fourth with the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners at +650. "Other unnamed teams" stand seventh at +700, with the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies tied for eighth at +850, and the Texas Rangers ranking tenth at +900.

According to Yahoo Sports, Murakami’s total contract is expected to exceed $100 million, with the Yakult Swallows receiving at least $16.9 million in transfer compensation. Per MLB regulations, the negotiation window between Murakami and teams officially opened at 8 a.m. Eastern Time on November 8 and will close at 5 p.m. on December 22.
