Time is running out for Met-New York to reunite with polar bear Alonso?

While the two sides still seem to be at odds over the financial details, the Mets have indicated that they are still interested in re-signing Alonso in order to partner the team's 15-year, $765 million Juan Soto in the Mets' squad in 2025.

However, according to a report in the New York Post, time is of the essence as the Mets want to settle as soon as possible in order to acquire other players before spring training, which is now less than a month away.

If the Mets choose not to sign Alonso, there are plenty of heavy gunners in the free agent market waiting for him, such as former Oriole outfield slugger Anthony Santander, who could fill the void. There are also some substitutes who might be a good fit for Queens.

At the same time, Alonso's overall market has been shrinking with the departure of other first basemen, reducing the number of other teams that may seek him, and there is currently not much interest in him from other teams other than the Metropolitans.
