Vietnam’s leading badminton athlete began her campaign very successfully on Korean soil.
Currently the number one Vietnamese badminton player, Nguyễn Thùy Linh made an impressive start at the Super 300 Korea Masters 2025 by defeating Han Yu-chen 21-9, 21-15 this afternoon on November 5, Hanoi time.
Han Yu-chen, ranked outside the world’s top 150 and lacking notable achievements, was unlikely to cause an upset against Nguyễn Thùy Linh—even though the Vietnamese player was just returning from injury. Thùy Linh took control early, quickly building a 9-point lead over her opponent.
After a timeout during the game, the match remained firmly in the hands of the world number 24. She continuously extended her lead with skills far superior to Han’s, closing the first set with a commanding 21-9 victory.
Thùy Linh kept up her strong momentum in the second set, quickly taking an 8-2 lead. Han Yu-chen fought hard to reduce the gap to 4 points, but that was all the Taipei player could manage. The "Vietnamese badminton beauty" restored order and sealed the set 21-15, securing a swift place in the round of 16.
Nguyễn Thùy Linh’s next opponent at the Korea Masters is Hung Yi-ting, another player from Taipei currently ranked 70th in the world.
Besides Thùy Linh, Nguyễn Hải Đăng also had an impressive start at the tournament in South Korea. The top Vietnamese male player defeated Kuo Kuan-lin (ranked 95th) 21-13, 21-13, and will face home favorite Jeon Hyeok-jin (ranked 35th) in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, the duo Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and Trần Đình Mạnh were eliminated early after a 1-2 loss (12-21; 21-15; 19-21) to Noh Jin-seong and Park Seung-min on November 4.
